Today was our first full day in Gascony and we visited two small Armagnac producers. Both are family run operations, they grow their own grapes and distill right there on their property every December. Their equipment has been passed on from generation to generation and one of the stills has been making Armagnac for over a hundred years. The oldest Armagnac we tasted was from 1969, but the one we loved (and bought) was an ’83. We then toured the Gascogne countryside and visited some small villages that have buildings dating back to medieval times.
