After driving some 1600 km (994 miles) in our little bimmer I felt it deserved a mention on this blog because it made a great travel car. I remember when we first picked it up and I couldn’t believe how bad the electronic steering was, something car critics mention about all the latest gen BMWs. But overall the handling was solid, it tackled the Pyrenees with great enthusiasm and I really enjoyed driving it. I was afraid it would feel hopelessly slow, but the large torque that turbo diesel engines provide always gave it enough grunt to pull out of hairpin turns. It felt decently quick, it only felt lacking going 140kph up a hill in 6th where it ran out of steam. The hatch fit our two suitcases perfectly and I love that Europeans still drive manuals.
